Round Hohenwart — forest loop with Hohe Warte

Moderate circular hike (~11 km) from Hohenwart: Wolfsgrube, Hohe Warte, Wildmauer and springs in Pforzheim city forest — GPX track for download.

The "Round Hohenwart" loop is a classic forest circuit in southern Pforzheim — Pforzheim's highest district on the Biet plateau. The start is Schönbornstraße by the last houses in Hohenwart, right before Hohenwart Forum. From Schellbronn you reach the start in about 15 minutes by car; from Pforzheim follow Schönbornstraße uphill.

Round Hohenwart

Just behind "Peters Ranch" you enter Hagenschieß forest. Via Hasenackerweg and Wolfsgrubenweg you reach the historic Wolfsgrube — a natural monument from the 17th century, when wolves still hunted in the region after the Thirty Years' War. From here the view sweeps into Würm valley towards Liebeneck castle from Staufer times.

Further on, Grenzweg leads to Hohenwarter Heuweg and Heuwegbrunnen spring, then uphill through Hohholz to Sauwasenbrunnen. At the forest edge the path goes to Hamberger Tor and back into the woods via Schellbronner Straße — Alte Kirchenweg, Eselsweg and Hofackerweg bring you to Hohe Warte.

192 steps lead up the 44 m wooden observation tower (573 m above sea level) — on clear days wide views into Nagold and Kapfenhardt valleys. Note: the tower may be closed at times; the loop is worth it without the climb. Downhill via Unterreichenbacher Straße and upper Klebweg, past wet biotopes to Dreimarksteinschlag.

Hohe Warte

On the return Wildmauer (18th-century natural monument) and Waldbronn spring await — then back to Schönbornstraße. The tour is about 10.7 km, moderate difficulty, paths mostly good. Walking time roughly 2¾ hours.

Find the GPX track at the top of this page for download — importable into Komoot, Outdooractive or any navigation app. Detailed route and elevation profile on GPS Wanderatlas at ich-geh-wandern.de (CC BY-SA, author Sigi2910). Pack sturdy shoes and food; the loop combines well with a visit to Wolfsgrube or a shorter variant from Schellbronn towards Hamberg.
