Autumn in the Northern Black Forest — forest, orchards & mist
Golden pines, meadow orchards and cool mornings on the Biet plateau: autumn mood around Schellbronn and Neuhausen (Enzkreis).
In autumn the Northern Black Forest shows its quiet side: the air is clear, summer crowds are gone, and between pines and old fruit trees morning mist often lies on the Biet plateau near Schellbronn.

Meadow orchards shape the landscape: old apple and pear trees, falling leaves and the scent of ripe fruit. Around Steinegg and Neuhausen, unplanned walks are rewarding — paths are marked and the hillside views open when the mist lifts.
In the forest larches and deciduous trees turn colour; on wet days moss and forest floor shine. Trails from the door or short drives to Hohe Warte and Hamberg woodland make atmospheric half-day loops — without crowded viewpoints.

Autumn is also Fasnet preparation in the Biet: villages craft, rehearse and plan ahead of the night parade. Guests in September or October feel the quiet anticipation before carnival season.
Pack sturdy shoes and a warm layer. Forest paths can be slippery after rain; Monbach Gorge is especially impressive then. Autumn suits couples and families who want calm and nature over action — slowly, without rushing.
